I want you to eat the cake | Rest Day Digest #07

Hey Reader

It’s me. Your friendly neighbourhood personal trainer dropping into your inbox to tell you something really important…

I want you to eat the cake.

In the past, you’ve probably been told that you shouldn’t eat the cake. Or maybe that you can eat the cake, but you need to burn it off afterwards. Or that you gotta exercise first to “earn” the cake.

Whatever advice you’ve been given in the past I want you to drop kick it into the sea. Get rid of it forever.

So, once again, please eat the cake.

The fact that you are here reading my emails means you likely know my stance. But just to hammer it home.

All foods belong as part of a healthy. Every darn one of them. The moment we start telling ourselves “we shouldn’t eat that” or that we’ve been “bad” because we ate it, it’s a slippery slope.

Now I’m not saying we should be eating it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But a healthy diet is a diet that we enjoy, and that means we include all the foods we enjoy eating too. Cake included.

I hope you have a great weekend. Oh, and quickly talking of delicious things to eat: if you want some higher protein smoothie recipes then you can check them out here.

Speak soon!

Your coach,

Michael

Reader - this morning, the Diary of a CEO podcast host, Stephen Bartlett, has been in the news because his podcast has been found to have spread some pretty dangerous health misinformation. So, seeing as this morning is all about calling out the nonsense of the wellness world, I thought I would share with you a couple of posts of mine you may...

Hey Reader It’s been a few weeks since my last email. Life got… well, busy. Between wrapping up end-of-year plans and prepping some exciting things for 2025, we also discovered some big news: my wife is pregnant again! Exciting? Absolutely. Overwhelming? You bet. It’s a reminder that life can get wonderfully unpredictable. And when things pile up, it’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like you’re failing or not doing enough. So this email is as much a message to myself as it is to you:...

Just a quick email today Reader I’m not sure if you saw, but I was invited onto LBC radio to talk about an incoming junk food advert ban. I was asked whether it would be enough to “improve the health of the nation”. I got to moan about all that is wrong with health and fitness advice, and also where we’d be better off putting our focus. I thought you would enjoy it and I welcome your thoughts on the video!
